Creamy Avocado Smoothie

The Creamy Avocado

The Creamy Avocado

Avocados are a staple for most veg nuts and raw foodists and for very good reasons. They are packed with nutrition, have healthy fats, and can be used as a thickener for smoothies and pudding. Not to mention a multitude of recipes that will satisfy the fat that we often crave in our foods without all the guilt.

The health promoting monounsaturated fats along with all of the other health benefits makes this an ideal, almost perfect food, to satisfy and even help prevent overeating.  One of my favorite ways to use the avocado is in a smoothie.  Who does not adore smoothies?

Avocado Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:
½ an avocado, peeled and pitted
½ banana
1 ½ cups nut milk, such as almond or soy
3 tablespoons of agave or 1 medjool date
1
 handful of ice
For a chocolate addition to this smoothie add 2 Tbsp of carob powder or raw cacao.

Directions:
Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Avocados are packed with vitamins A, several of the B vitamins, especially folate (the natural form of folic acid), vitamins C and E, and fiber which makes them a nutritional powerhouse.

The minerals include calcium, iron, copper, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. They may be the richest fruit source of magnesium. Magnesium is essential for healthy bones, regulation of blood pressure, cardiac rhythms and may help to prevent migraines and magnesium is utilized in over 300 body functions.  What a great way to get a natural boost of nutrients from the humble avocado.

Best of all avocado’s taste great!  I hope you like this basic smoothie recipe and don’t worry, you won’t taste the avocado.  Just a smooth, delicious and nutritious drink.
